Harpoon and the press #4,987

The Harpoon is at it again. A story in the May 28th edition of The Hill Times, outlines the ham-handed heavy-fisted efforts of Prime Minister Harpoon to muzzle the press. Threats to arrest them. Turfing print journalists from a helicopter and allowing only a couple of photographers along on the visit to Afghanistan.

Nothing new - just the same old snot nosed sneering at everyone who doesn't fawn all over Harpoon and ugly threats to take away the freedom of anyone who pushes back in the slightest.

So ladies and gentlemen of the press, a suggestion: stop covering Harpoon and the Conservatives. No more photo ops. Cover only what is introduced and said in Parliament. Apart from that - nothing. And extend the approach to every single one of the government members and party candidates. If you don't say it (or do it) in Parliament it doesn't get reported or photographed.

Harpoon would enjoy it for maybe a week and then it would be over and there'd be no more of this crap of trying to limit what reporters can cover.

Oh - and cover the hell out of the Libs, the Greens, the knee dippers and the Bloc. Harpoon will not last more than a week - guaranteed. His own party will fricase him. And the Canadian public will bless you all - a week without any coverage of Harpoon - what bliss.

Except for the fact the Cons have a communications center on standby, with links to local tv stations. PMSH could get his message out, undistorted by the media. (which may be his secret agenda)

I like it - let him have to get his message out community by community, one at a time. And after they've done that in one community and move on to the next, there is a huge void for the Tories in the wire service material all papers rely on. Wroks for me,
