Tiny Tim Peterson didn't make much of an impact in 3.5 years at Queens Park and he's a 15-minutes-of-fame footnote for leaving the Liberals and slithering over to the Tories. This is not an A list politician. You won't find him on B or C lists either. And the betting here is he won't make a Tory cabinet either, if there is one.
Question is "who needs a white male having a mid life crisis because he has vastly overestimated his political worth?" John Tory was so glad to get him that he won't let Peterson sit in the Tory caucus unless or until he's elected a PC. Not exactly a ringing endorsement and open-armed welcome. And Peterson's been negotiating this deal since January when he first talked to Tory? No fool like an old fool.

Tim Peterson was the first Liberal MPP in this PC riding in a generation. He won by the thinnest of margins (235 votes). Like Garth, he was disappointed to not be in Cabinet. Like Garth, he knew there was no way he was going to be reelected in the next election without the move. I expect/hope for a McGuinty majority, but it will be by a smaller margin (and thus ridings that were won by the thinnest of margins in 2003 will probably go back to being Consevative in 2007).
He comes from one of the biggest and most established Liberal families in Ontario and Canada.
He, himself, may not be a big deal, but doing this, resigning from the OLP, while having the "Peterson" last name is huge.
Jim Peterson - MP
Deb Matthews (sis-in-law) - MPP
David Peterson - former Liberal MPP and Premier of Ontario.
This is Tantamount to a Trudeau running for the Tories.
While I can understand why some individuals may be upset and feel betrayed that Mr. Peterson resigned from the Liberal party and intends to run as a Progressive Conservative come October 10, 2007, I cannot agree with the notion that he did it for self interest and opportunity.
I have observed Mr. Peterson’s activity within the riding since he got elected in 2003 and know that he cares deeply for the residents of Mississauga South. Not only by fundraising for local charities, but taking part in community events from local ratepayer association BBQ’s to the Mississauga Marathon and Waterfront Festival.
I also commend him for his strong advocacy with respect to the pollution in the riding. It is a known fact that in Mississauga South the air quality is already above federal standards and that the current government intends on implementing another power generating station.
If Mr. Peterson believes that by pursuing this move is in the best interests for the residents of Mississauga South then I fully support his decision, regardless of political affiliation.
