Happy New Year all.
This being the time of looking ahead, I thought I'd add my two cents worth to predictions as to what 2007 will hold.
1.The Leafs will not win the Stanley Cup, the Raptors won't win the NBA and the Jays will not win the World Series. The Argos will not win the Grey Cup either.
2. The environment will continue to dog Harper and be a strength for Stephane Dion. But since
3. there will not be a federal election in 2007, the Harperites will have a chance to improve on the great big black hole in their policy platform.
4. McGuinty will win the provincial election and Tory will be defeated in his quest for a Toronto seat.
5. The NDP goes tits up in Ontario and federally, too, when the federal election rolls around.
6. The Sun comes close to setting in Toronto. No one reads it except cabbies and bus drivers. The Star continues to pander to politically correct ethnic coverage instead of focusing on what it used to do so very well - hire reporters who know how to report and let them get on with NEWS stories and it, too, is suffering from shriveling circulation and lineage.
7. Ann-Marie MacDonald and Diane Krall have very good years. David Halton and George Stroumboulopoulos do not.
8. City council functions more effectively with new powers but David Miller's charisma is gone and he ain't gonna get it back. Keep your eye on Thompson, Carroll, Vaughn and Stintz. One of them will prosper four years from now.
9. Gardening takes off and TWC (those who count) will not be caught dead without a small patch of vegetables and a lot filled with environmentally enhancing plants.
10. The economy surprises everyone and grows at a 2.78% rate.
Good health and good luck to all in 2007.
