London Byelection

Joe Fontana's seat of London North Centre is up for grabs in the byelection set for November 27, 2006.

Dianne Haskett, the Muslim-hating, homophobic former mayor who has just returned from six years of worship at the knees of Bush Republicans in Washington, is running for the Conservatives. Is it too much to hope that a city with a great university and that has been represented by honorable Tories (yeah, they used to exist) like John Robarts will not send someone of Haskett's ilk to Ottawa. Or Megan Walker, the NDP's self righteous, pugnacious candidate who has caught the NDP's fatal disease - a nauseating belief in her own moral superiority. Surely Walker will have little appeal except to a few Sid Ryan fans.

Thoughtful voters will turn to Glen Pearson of the Liberals and Elizabeth May of the Green Party. On their worst days, both are far superior to Haskett and Walker. Pearson and May are thoughtful, articulate candidates who approach politics with an awareness that challenges facing the nation require more than outdated cliches as answers.

We can trust Londoners to be sensible can't we?

Nothing more nauseating than Liberals who decry candidates point out the lack of ethics in the Liberal party.

Welcome to the blogosphere. Londoners voted for the Liberals before, the finger's are crossed though.
