This 'n that

Spare a tear for the Alliance party that is federally trying to raise money for the coming election. Among the horse manure spouted by the party's president, Doug Finley was this incredible statement "the Liberals have long benefitted from the support of the country's most powerful vested interests."

True. Conrad Black was a vigorous supported and donor. Must have given $10 or $15 at one time in his life. Hal Jackman and sister Senator Nancy Ruth are certainly well known Libs, as are most of Bay Street corporate presidents. The poor old Alliance has only managed to raise $4 for every $1 the Libs have banked - awful the things that happen when you have no corporate support and the whole country's agin ya.

Finley goes on to whine about the CBC too. Pissed off he is because some reporters apparently fed Opposition members questions to pose to Brian Mulroney. Imagine. It was OK during the Gomery hearings to tell Alliance opposition members what to ask but the shoe on the other foot is a no-no.

That's why Canadians don't vote for the Alliance often or en masse. Voters are reminded vividly on a daily basis about how the Alliance lies at every turn. Even when the truth is as obvious as a sunny morning, they still try to brazen their way through with distortions, half truths and outright lies. Finley's letter is a perfect example of the kind of crap Canadians can't stand - lies, whining, self pity and out of touch with reality. We get enough of that from Richard Peddy of the Toronto Maple Leafs and that Bateman boy in New York - from political hacks we don't need to stand for it.

What is it about some Canadian Coaches that they are wrong so often and get away with it? National Junior coach Craig Hartsburg is a perfect example. Last year he cut John Tavares from the national junior team because the boy was only 16.

Never mind the kid had shown on ice that he belonged and deserved a spot on the team. He had the misfortune of running into Hartsburg, who is like so many coaches who follow cliches as substitutes for knowledge and understanding of the game. Tavares kicked the crap out of Harstburg's opinion by going on a huge tear in his league in January and February of 2007 after being cut from the national team. Hartsburg got away with his huge misjudgment because the Juniors won the gold; as a result no one looked too closely at Hartsburg's judgments or direction of the team.

Most unfortunate because he's at it again. Tavares has made the team this year but Hartsburg spouted off to Dave Feschuk of the Toronto Star today about how Tavares is not going to play much at the World Junior Hockey tournament and will have a limited role at best because he's only 17. Hartsburg says Tavares will be a fourth line player and will be on the power play but he won't be playing nearly as much as he's used to and will have to learn a lot before he's allowed to dance with the big boys. Sounds exactly like the jack ass who decided Sidney Crosbie wasn't good enough either.

And how is Hartsburg doing so far? Tonight the Juniors won their first game 3 -0. Tavares? Only scored 2 of the 3 Canadian goals.

Just once it would be nice to have a coach who actually knows what the hell he's doing and can make intelligent statements about what is occurring. The Raptors' Sam Mitchell and Bryan Colangelo are better than most at looking behind the stereotypes and making judgments that ignore the conventional wisdom. An excellent story by Michael Grange in the Globe and Mail on December 15 gives insight into Jamario Moon's long road to an NBA roster spot. Colangelo passed by Moon once before but he and the Raptors had the good sense to act on what they saw with their own eyes at a tryout this fall and to sign Moon to a contract.

What a contrast to the bullshit Toronto gets from Richard Peddy or JP Ricciardi. The Leafs have been a national joke for more than 4 decades now so there are no golden days of yore but many of us can still remember what a great team the Jays were under Pat Gillick and Paul Beeston. Both men were class acts. They made mistakes in their respective roles but they never presented themselves as an all-powerful all-knowing genius. The Jays have class in Paul Godfrey but he's not the face of the team and he's not calling the shots in any area the fans care about. Too bad. He'd probably do much better than Ricciardi and for sure there wouldn't be the bullshit to compound the mistakes. Hartsburg needs a role model and if Gretzsky isn't good enough for him he should look to leaders like Gillick and Beeston instead of following the Don Cherry school of leadership.

CBC is a tax funded organization.

That means that my tax dollars are just as important as anyone else's.

I am a conservative and you're a liberal.

So that means that CBC should be neutral in the way they report the news.

But we all know that the CBC is a Liberal tool, which is wrong.

The CBC should not be asking questions to politicians at all, unless in a neutral manner.

Clearly, the questions that were given to the Liberals were meant to embarrass Mulroney and the Conservative's.

You need to grow up.

CBC should be a fair and balanced news source.

Instead, they promote their far left leanings.

My tax dollars should not be going to the CBC.

Actually, Johnathon, the CBC is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation - not "a Liberal tool" despite you and your clown friend's recent attempts to peddle that lie.

Taxes don't include a check-off box for where you'd want your funds to go - or me either for that matter. So, if you're saying you don't like Canada and its your way or the highway, I suggest you leave. The US has a lot of that attitude; you'd fit right in.

Grumpy seems to have reached adulthood quite well, even when I don't agree with him. You, on the other hand, need to grow a brain.

I'm not Liberal or Conservative, but I do know when a juvenile government has decided they'd rather be on perpetual attack of "perceived enemies" rather than run a government worthy of respect. Harper's government is well past its own "use by" date.
